Vocabulary for Common Classtimes - 09/08/2013

Studies show that students' vocabularies are enhanced when the teachers are excited about words.  I would cite the studies, but I simply don't have time to look them up right now.  If you notice, I don't even have a blog post for August because aren't we all a little hectic in the beginning of the year? If anyone could post a link to a study, please let me know, otherwise, I will try to update this post by mid-week. So if you are simply excited about "spicy" words, your children will be too.  But what else can you do?  Here are some posters I use in my class to remind me to use "spicy" words during common class times or transitions.  I hang them up in non-prime location spots because they are just there for me to use orally so that students are exposed to rich vocabulary at all times of the day.  You can download this file here:  Vocabulary for Common Class Times I don't recall where I got this list, but awhile ago, I typed it up and hung it in my classroom.  Please let me know if you have any other words to suggest and I will revise the file and repost. I hope everyone has gotten off to a good start this year! Happy Teaching! Anna
